A beautiful beach inside a protected nesting landscape
Gerakas is both a beach and wildlife habitat. Loggerhead turtles nest in the sand within the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, so access, umbrellas and activity are controlled more carefully than at a conventional resort beach. Marked nests and wardens make the purpose of those rules visible.
Visit during permitted daytime hours, use only authorised beach equipment and keep well away from protected sections. Do not dig deep holes, leave objects in the sand or use lights after dark. The shore is suited to a quiet swim, not motorised water sports. Current park guidance always takes priority over a travel article or an older photograph.
