Kalogria pairs shallow Ionian water and organised beach sections with dunes, pine forest and wetlands that need more care than the average resort coast.
Our take
A long sandy swim beside the protected Strofylia wetlands
Kalogria runs along the seaward edge of the Strofylia landscape, where dunes and stone pine forest separate the Ionian shore from lagoons and wetland habitat. The beach is broad and sandy, with a gentle entry that works well for families in calm conditions. Organised sections cluster near the road approaches, leaving open stretches between them.
The surrounding reserve is part of the visit, not spare land for parking or shortcuts. Use marked roads and paths, keep vehicles off sand and vegetation, and take particular care with fire risk in summer. Westerly wind can turn the shallow sea rough, so treat a red flag or strong shore break seriously even when the water looks warm.
