A great stone bridge at the meeting point of rivers and mountains.
Konitsa is an adventure base beside the Aoos Gorge, with a monumental arched bridge, Ottoman-era lanes and access to northern Pindus trails.
Konitsa's single-arch stone bridge spans the Aoos at the mouth of a dramatic gorge. Paths follow the river towards the Monastery of Stomio, while the town climbs above with old houses, churches and traces of Ottoman civic life.
The Aoos and Voidomatis support rafting and kayaking, and roads continue towards Mastorochoria stone villages and the Albanian border. Konitsa combines outdoor access with enough local history and food to merit more than a trailhead stop.
Practical information
A car is useful, though buses connect from Ioannina. Use licensed river guides, check gorge conditions and carry identification near the border.
