Zagori brings together 46 traditional villages, the Vikos–Aoos landscape, old footpaths, mountain food and some of Greece's finest stone architecture.
Zagori's villages were linked for centuries by cobbled paths and arched stone bridges, many of which survive around Kipi, Koukouli and Dilofo. Vikos Gorge cuts through the limestone below viewpoints at Oxya and Beloi, while the Voidomatis runs clear through the northern valleys.
The region's UNESCO-listed cultural landscape is lived, not frozen. Guesthouses occupy restored mansions, and kitchens centre on pies, mushrooms, herbs and pastoral produce. Walking between villages reveals more than driving from viewpoint to viewpoint.
Practical information
A car is needed for a broad visit, but serious gorge routes require separate transport planning. Weather changes quickly; use mapped trails and avoid exposed viewpoints in ice or fog.
