The Anthemion House

A sensitively restored 1927 house with unusually spacious rooms, an excellent local breakfast and private parking, poised between the aqueduct, harbour and old town.

Our take

Seven thoughtful rooms beside Kavala’s aqueduct

The Anthemion House gives Kavala a small hotel with the confidence to do a few things exceptionally well. Seven rooms and suites fit into a 1927 neoclassical home built for a tobacco merchant, retaining original doors and proportions while adding clean-lined furniture, deep colour and excellent beds. Breakfast is made around local bread, pies, yoghurt, fruit, Thasos olives and homemade preserves rather than a generic buffet. Several larger suites include a kitchenette or separate sitting room, which makes the house practical for families as well as couples.

The Kamares aqueduct is just outside and the harbour, shopping streets and Panagia quarter are all walkable. Kavala’s terrain still matters: some approaches are steep, crossings can be awkward and the compact standard rooms feel very different from the apartments. Free private parking 30 metres away is therefore a valuable rarity, though drivers should request directions before arrival. There is no restaurant, pool or full spa. Anthemion is Kavala’s best small design hotel for travellers who want personal hosting, breakfast and quiet character without giving up central access.
