Katogi Averoff Hotel & Winery

A calm hotel attached to Metsovo’s historic winery, bringing spacious rooms, thoughtful regional cooking and cellar visits into one distinctive mountain stay.

Our take

Contemporary rooms beside one of Greece’s landmark wineries

Katogi Averoff is more than a hotel with a wine theme: it shares its site with the cellar that helped revive high-altitude wine growing around Metsovo. Rooms are contemporary and unusually spacious for the village, with standard categories starting around 25 square metres and many looking towards the winery or mountains. A cellar tour explains the Averoff story and the region’s demanding vineyards, while tastings give the stay a purpose beyond comfortable accommodation. The restaurant builds its menu around Epirote ingredients and matches dishes with the estate’s wines, making an evening in feel worthwhile.

The hotel sits on the edge of Metsovo, roughly a ten-minute uphill walk from the central square, so it trades immediate village bustle for quieter nights and easier access by car. Some rooms face working parts of the winery and occasional operational noise is possible; travellers should also check restaurant and tour days outside busy periods. There is no pool or full spa, and this is not the right choice for anyone seeking resort facilities. Katogi Averoff is Metsovo’s best wine-focused hotel for curious drinkers, food-minded couples and drivers who appreciate space, strong design and a story rooted in the place.
