Kythea Resort

A full-service hillside hotel above Agia Pelagia, with sweeping sea views, a generous pool, included breakfast and practical rooms that sleep families of four.

Our take

Kythira’s strongest all-round resort hotel

Kythea Resort is the clearest choice on Kythira for travellers who want the reassurance of a proper hotel rather than a villa or guesthouse. Set above Agia Pelagia, its five levels look east across the village and sea, with balconies in every room and full or partial water views depending on category. Doubles, triples and family rooms cover groups of up to four without relying on an apartment, while the outdoor pool, pool bar and terrace create somewhere worthwhile to stay between excursions. Local-style breakfast is included, reception operates around the clock, and a lift, laundry facilities and complimentary parking make the practical side easier than at many small island properties.

The elevated position is scenic rather than beachfront. Agia Pelagia’s port is about a 15-minute walk downhill and the return climb is noticeable, so a car is valuable both for dinner and for exploring an island whose best places are widely scattered. The hotel closes from October through April, the pool is seasonal, and food service beyond breakfast is centred on a snack bar rather than a destination restaurant. Standard rooms have only a partial sea view, so it is worth comparing categories. Expedia’s current 9.6 rating from 53 reviews gives Kythea the best mature score among Kythira’s full-service family resorts. It suits first-time visitors who want a pool, helpful staff and broad views, provided they are comfortable driving for beaches, Chora and the south.
