Ulrika Hotel

A modest family-run hotel close to the town beach and Temple of Apollo, loved for kind hosts, clean rooms, useful balconies and excellent value without a car.

Our take

A simple, warm-hearted stay between Kolona and the harbour

Ulrika is a reminder that a memorable island hotel need not be elaborate. The family-run property stands just behind the seafront, two minutes from the Archaeological Museum and Temple of Apollo and around seven minutes from the fish market. Rooms are straightforward but have the essentials—air conditioning, refrigerator, private bathroom and often a balcony with garden or sea glimpses. Guests repeatedly praise the beds, cleanliness and unusually attentive owners. The nearby beach works for an easy swim, restaurants and the bus terminal are walkable, and public parking is available close by. It is an excellent base for travellers arriving with one bag who want to step off the ferry and manage the entire town without renting a car.

This is officially a one-star hotel, and expectations should match the category. Bathrooms and televisions are compact, there is no lift, pool or luxury reception area, and check-in currently takes place at the related Hotel Plaza a short walk away. Guests must contact the property before arrival for access instructions, particularly for a late ferry. Sea-facing rooms may trade a better outlook for more outside sound, while garden rooms are usually the quieter choice. Breakfast and restaurant arrangements should be checked for the chosen dates rather than assumed. Ulrika earns its exceptional 9.4 Expedia rating through hospitality, location and value, making it the strongest budget beach-and-town pick rather than a miniature resort.
