Panagia is not an ornamental stop between tastings. The monastery complex and church belong to the story of Goumenissa's development as a settlement and religious centre, and the icon remains an object of living devotion. Visit early in the stay so the town's name, processions and feast-day importance have meaning before wineries and the central square take over the itinerary.
Worship and pastoral needs come before tourism. Check access locally, dress with shoulders and knees covered, silence phones and never photograph the icon, services or people without explicit permission. Entrances and old surfaces may create accessibility limits, so ask the church directly if step-free access is required. Avoid arriving immediately after tasting alcohol, and leave any food or picnic outside the sacred compound.
