Agios Stefanos Beach

A south-coast Kos beach where early Christian ruins, a small offshore islet and easy swimming share one unusually legible landscape.

Our take

Sand, shallow water and ruins facing Kastri islet

Agios Stefanos is more than a swim stop. The remains of early Christian basilicas sit immediately behind the shore, and Kastri islet gives the bay a recognisable horizon. The water is often approachable, though conditions still vary.

Do not walk or place belongings on archaeological remains, and never swim to the islet unless conditions, ability and local advice make it genuinely safe. Bring shade outside organised sections and visit early enough to read the site before beach traffic peaks. Pair it with Kefalos rather than racing back to Kos Town for another timed attraction.
