Kos, Kalymnos and Leros form one of the Dodecanese’s most coherent northern routes. Kos supplies the airport, ancient sites and easy cycling; Kalymnos changes the landscape to limestone cliffs and sponge-diving history; Leros finishes with deep bays and unusually rich twentieth-century architecture. Eleven days keeps the sequence useful rather than hurried.
Build around the ports
Check whether the Kos–Kalymnos leg leaves from Mastichari or Kos Town, then verify the onward Leros service. Separate tickets are not protected. Return to Kos on day ten for a day-eleven flight unless the Leros flight schedule is the confirmed departure.
Days 1–4: Kos
Spend two days in and around Kos Town: the Asklepieion, ancient remains woven through the city and a bicycle ride on suitable paths. Use another day for the south, pairing Agios Stefanos Beach with Kefalos rather than criss-crossing the island. Keep one day open for a village route or rest.
Days 5–7: Kalymnos
Take the short confirmed crossing and base near Pothia for town life or on the west coast for climbing access. Non-climbers should still visit the sponge-diving museums and use a boat or road day to read the island’s hard coastline. Climbers need current sector guidance, proper insurance and equipment; never treat an online route note as a safety check.
Day 8: Telendos or a rest day
Use the local boat to car-free Telendos when conditions are comfortable, or stay on Kalymnos for a quieter cove. Confirm the final return boat and carry water. Telendos is a local excursion, not another hotel move in an already mobile itinerary.
Days 9–10: Leros
Sail to Leros and choose one base. See Lakki’s planned architecture with historical context, then continue to Agia Marina, Platanos and the castle. The island’s wartime sites deserve a knowledgeable guide and respectful treatment. On day ten, return to Kos unless flying from Leros.
Day 11: Departure
Leave from the confirmed airport with no sea crossing attached. A final Kos night also provides room for a delayed ferry and a last meal without luggage pressure.
