Kefalonia’s great limestone amphitheatre
Myrtos earns its reputation through scale. The road reveals the entire bay from above before dropping through tight bends to a beach backed by a high limestone wall. The water changes colour over pale stone, but the open setting also means that waves can build quickly and the seabed shelves away from shore.
Arrive before the central hours in high season, bring footwear for the hot shingle and do not rely on finding natural shade. Treat the official viewpoint as a separate stop and park only where it is safe and permitted. At beach level, follow lifeguard instructions and stay out when surf or shore break makes entry difficult.
