Preveli Beach

A distinctive south-coast meeting of river, palm grove and sea, reached by a demanding path or seasonal boat and best visited outside peak heat.

Our take

River, palms and Libyan Sea below a steep path

Preveli’s appeal is the whole setting, not only the shore. A river reaches the Libyan Sea through a protected palm-lined valley, while viewpoints from the approach reveal the geography before the descent.

The main path is steep, exposed and tiring on the return. Wear secure shoes, carry water and avoid the hottest hours. Boat access may suit travellers who cannot manage the steps, but schedules and sea conditions vary. Stay on marked routes through the palms, do not light fires and leave the river habitat undisturbed.
