Fine sand, bright shallow water and a dune-backed double bay make Simos the island’s signature swim, with summer services but little escape from peak crowds.
Our take
Twin sandy bays backed by Elafonisos’s protected dunes
Simos is formed by two adjoining bays—Mikros Simos and the longer Megalos Simos—divided by a low sandy neck. The water is shallow and luminous in settled weather, while dunes and sea daffodils give the landward side more ecological value than a normal resort backdrop.
Use the marked approaches and never drive, camp or spread equipment on the dunes. The sheltered smaller bay suits families when the wind is light; the longer beach has more room but is also more exposed. In July and August, arrive early enough to choose a legal parking space and expect the organised sections to be busy.
