Thapsa Beach

Thapsa's pale pebble cove is visually striking, but the long rough access track makes a suitable vehicle, preparation and restraint essential.

Our take

Brilliant water at the end of a punishing track

Thapsa lies on an isolated Aegean bay north of Kymi, reached only after a slow, rocky track. White pebble and vivid water create the appeal; the difficult approach is an inseparable part of the decision to go. A normal low-clearance rental car is a poor choice, especially after winter damage.

There is little reliable infrastructure and no quick alternative if weather turns. Carry water, shade and a charged phone, check the road locally, and leave before dark. A boat excursion is safer and more relaxed than forcing an unsuitable car over the final kilometres.
