Vai Beach

A managed beach at the edge of Europe’s largest natural grove of Cretan date palms, reached on a long but rewarding drive from Sitia.

Our take

Eastern Crete’s palm forest beside a clear bay

Vai combines a real botanical landscape with an organised swimming beach. The protected palm grove supplies the identity, while marked areas, facilities and a viewpoint keep visitor pressure concentrated.

Arrive early in summer and use the official parking and paths. Do not enter fenced habitat or treat the grove as a picnic ground. The drive from central or western Crete is too long for a casual day trip; stay in Sitia or eastern Lasithi and pair Vai with one nearby village or archaeological stop, not an entire east-coast checklist.
