Nine kilometres of open sand on southern Lesvos
Vatera runs for roughly nine kilometres along southern Lesvos, making it easy to move beyond the busier sections near tavernas and rooms. Sand and fine pebble vary along the coast, so entry conditions differ more than the uninterrupted line suggests.
Southerly weather produces waves and current on this open shore. Facilities are spaced far apart; carry water when walking away from the settlement and note your access point for the return.
