Arnaia is a well-preserved mountain town of colourful timber-framed houses, weaving heritage, honey production and access to Holomontas forest.
Arnaia shows a side of Halkidiki far removed from beach resorts. Its cobbled centre is lined with restored nineteenth-century houses in ochre, blue and red, while the old school now holds museums devoted to local history and weaving.
The surrounding Holomontas mountains support beekeeping, forestry and mushroom gathering. Taverns focus on mountain produce, and nearby villages and walking routes make Arnaia a rewarding stop in spring or autumn as well as a cool summer detour.
Practical information
A car is the easiest way to reach Arnaia and explore Holomontas. Winter weather can affect high roads; confirm museum hours, especially outside weekends.
