Limenas places an ancient agora, theatre and hillside sanctuaries within walking distance of ferries, restaurants and town beaches.
Ancient Thasos grew around the same natural harbour as the modern capital. The agora, Archaeological Museum and hillside theatre create a substantial urban archaeology route, with paths continuing to sanctuaries and old walls.
Modern Limenas is busy with ferries and summer visitors, but lanes behind the waterfront retain island life. Nearby Makryammos and northern beaches are easy to reach, while the town remains the best base for history.

Frequent ferries cross from Keramoti. The archaeological route is steep beyond the agora; start early and use buses for beaches to avoid parking.
