Litochoro is the main gateway to Mount Olympus, pairing a lived-in Macedonian town with access to Enipeas Gorge and the high peaks.
Litochoro sits where the lower slopes of Olympus meet the Pieria plain. Cafés, bakeries and guesthouses serve both residents and hikers, while old lanes climb around churches and views towards the mountain. The Olympus National Park information centre helps put the landscape in context.
The Enipeas Gorge path begins near town, and the mountain road climbs to Prionia for routes towards the refuges and summits. The coast is also close, making it possible to combine a morning walk with an afternoon by the Thermaic Gulf.
Practical information
Trains stop at Litochoro station near the coast, several kilometres from town. Book taxis or transfers for trailheads, register serious hikes and carry proper mountain equipment.
