Poros

Pine-covered hills and a waterfront channel facing the Peloponnese.

Poros blends a photogenic harbour town with lemon groves, wooded coves and easy boat connections across the narrow strait to Galatas.

Poros is formed by two joined islands, with most life concentrated around the channel opposite Galatas. A clock tower overlooks the tiled roofs of Poros Town, while the archaeological site of Poseidon sits among pines farther inland. Across the water, the Lemon Forest spreads over the Peloponnesian slopes.

The island's coast is gentle and accessible. Askeli and Neorio provide organised beaches, and small boats reach quieter bays. Sailing schools and sheltered waters give Poros a strong nautical character without the exposed feel of more distant Aegean islands.

Practical information

Fast ferries run from Piraeus, and frequent local boats cross from Galatas in minutes. A bus serves the main beaches; a scooter or car is useful for the monastery and Temple of Poseidon.
