Why go

A sociable south-Thasos beach base with mountain villages behind it.

Potos is a lively resort on Thasos's southern coast, offering a long beach, evening restaurants and access to Theologos, Giola and quieter coves.

Potos centres on an easy sandy beach and compact strip of tavernas, bars and shops. It is one of the island's busier summer bases, popular with families and travellers from the Balkans.

A short drive inland reaches Theologos, known for stone houses and roast goat, while the coast extends towards Astris and the natural rock pool at Giola. The latter is often crowded and exposed, so it should not define the whole area.

Practical information

Buses connect Potos with Limenaria and Limenas. Start early for coastal sights, obey parking rules and never jump into Giola when sea conditions are unsafe.
