Rafina is a practical gateway to Andros, Tinos and Mykonos, with a compact harbour, nearby beaches and a relaxed seafood scene.
Rafina faces the central Aegean from Attica's east coast and offers shorter crossings to several northern Cyclades islands than Piraeus. Ferries dominate the harbour, but the square above it, local bakeries and fish restaurants make the town useful for an overnight stay rather than a rushed transfer.
Marikes and Kokkino Limanaki beaches lie close by, while the archaeological site of Brauron and its sanctuary of Artemis make a rewarding detour near the airport. Rafina remains a working town first and a resort second.
Practical information
Airport buses and regional coaches connect Rafina with Athens, but traffic can be slow in summer. Arrive early for ferries, confirm the quay and avoid tight same-day flight connections.
