Thasos combines accessible beaches and forest villages with white-marble landscapes, ancient Limenas, mountain food and a long mining history.
Thasos has been known for timber, wine, metals and brilliant white marble since antiquity. Ancient Limenas preserves an agora and theatre, while working and historic quarries mark the coast and interior.
Pine forest covers much of the island, descending towards coves around Aliki and Golden Beach. Theologos and Panagia offer mountain architecture and meat-focused tavernas. Thasos is easy to reach, but the full coastal circuit is larger than it appears.
Practical information
Frequent vehicle ferries cross from Keramoti and Kavala-area routes. A car is useful; stay out of active quarries and follow wildfire restrictions.
