Tripoli is the administrative heart of the central Peloponnese, with museums, lively squares and road access to Mantineia wine country and mountain villages.
Modern Tripoli occupies a high plateau with broad squares, cafés and markets serving the surrounding Arcadian region. The Archaeological Museum presents finds from Mantineia, Tegea and other important sites often bypassed on faster routes.
Nearby vineyards produce Moschofilero, an aromatic white grape strongly associated with Mantineia. Roads radiate towards Mainalo, Dimitsana, Stemnitsa and Sparta, making the city useful for a less touristic inland circuit.
