Eight rooms inside a piece of Kos history
Albergo Gelsomino feels less like a conventional beach hotel than a small piece of the town brought carefully back to life. Italian architect Rodolfo Petracco designed the building in the late 1920s, and the restoration keeps its tall proportions, parquet floors and deep colours while giving the eight rooms excellent beds and marble bathrooms. Walk through the restaurant and the building opens straight onto the seafront, where breakfast and dinner are served beneath the old pergola. The Tree of Hippocrates, Ancient Agora and harbour are all within a few minutes on foot, so a couple can stay here without planning the day around taxis or a hire car.
The intimacy is also the limitation. There is no pool, spa or gym, no onsite parking, and only the sea-facing categories receive the full Aegean view; city rooms look towards a busy central street where traffic can be heard.
