Amanita Guesthouse

A deeply personal nature-and-food retreat in a large organic garden, known for extraordinary farm-to-table breakfasts, fireplaces, foraging and guided mountain days.

Our take

A garden-grown Pelion experience for walkers and food lovers

Amanita turns a stay in Tsagarada into an unusually intimate lesson in Pelion. Owners Marianna and Filaretos restored old buildings among a 3.5-acre organic garden, then built the experience around what grows there. Breakfast is the centrepiece: vegetables, fruit and herbs are collected in the garden and combined with products from small local makers in a long, seasonal introduction to the mountain’s cooking. Rooms, suites, studios and apartments occupy three traditional buildings, most with a fireplace and several with enough space or a kitchenette for longer stays. Depending on season, guests can join walks for herbs, wild fruit or mushrooms, or arrange cooking and garden workshops rather than simply receiving a list of sights.

Amanita rewards participation, but it is not a conventional luxury hotel. There is no pool, spa, bar or dinner restaurant, and the multi-building grounds have stairs and no lift. Tsagarada’s dispersed geography makes a car the sensible choice for beaches and evening meals, despite free parking at the guesthouse. Workshops and guided activities depend on weather, season and advance arrangement; the garden is richest from spring into autumn. Expedia’s perfect rating is based on only two reviews, so it should be read alongside the property’s long operating history and specialist focus, not treated as a large statistical sample. This is the village’s standout nature-and-gastronomy boutique for travellers who care about breakfast, walking and the people behind a place.
