Bellevalia Hydra

A waterfront hideaway at Plakes Vlychos with a private beach, stone terraces and the rare pleasure of swimming directly from a Hydra hotel.

Our take

A quiet cove beyond Hydra’s harbour

Bellevalia sits away from Hydra Town at Plakes Vlychos, where the island’s dry hills meet a clear, sheltered cove. The distance is part of the appeal: arrival is generally by boat from the harbour, and the hotel’s terraces step down through stone walls and pines to a private beach. Days feel shaped by the sea rather than the town clock.

Rooms are restrained and light, with the stronger categories opening towards the water. Guests come here to swim before breakfast, read beneath the trees and linger over Greek cooking without repeatedly commuting into town. Hydra’s harbour remains available for galleries, shopping and a late evening, but this is best chosen by travellers who are happy to return by water taxi. Couples and repeat visitors will particularly value the privacy and the sense of having found a softer edge of a famously social island.
