Spetses beyond the harbour promenade
Founded through the vision of benefactor Sotirios Anargyros, this extensive campus was conceived as a model boarding school and opened in the 1920s. Its neoclassical buildings, athletic grounds and open-air theatre occupy a green stretch west of Spetses Town, far removed from the island’s usual shorthand of yachts and beach clubs.
The estate is not a conventional drop-in attraction: access depends on current events, tours and programmes. Check the foundation calendar before going. Even when only seen as part of a scheduled visit, it is a valuable reminder that Spetses has long been a place of education, philanthropy and public life as well as summer leisure.
