A calm courtyard hidden behind Skiathos Town’s main street
Bourtzi Hotel hides one of Skiathos Town’s most useful combinations behind the shops of the main pedestrian street. Out front, its cocktail bar joins the evening passeggiata; inside, 38 contemporary rooms gather around a remarkably peaceful courtyard pool. Rooms are crisp rather than showy, with Coco-Mat beds, Korres toiletries and either an entrance or pool outlook. Breakfast is generous and included, and the owner-led team earns its reputation by giving specific advice on beaches, boats and restaurants rather than reciting a standard list. The harbour and bus terminus are close enough to make a car unnecessary.
The trade-off is that this is a town base, not a beach hotel. Megali Ammos is walkable, but guests who want to step from bed onto sand should choose elsewhere. There is no parking, spa or full dinner restaurant, rooms top out at two or three guests, and the pool is compact when everybody returns from the beach. Although rooms are soundproofed, anyone highly sensitive to evening bustle should request a courtyard position. Bourtzi is Skiathos’s best town-centre boutique hotel for travellers who want to explore a different beach each day and come home to dinner on foot.
