Spacious suites above the comings and goings of Merichas
EmGard turns a practical first or last stop into one of Kythnos’s best stays. The hotel sits above Merichas, roughly a kilometre from the ferry, so its furnished balconies look across the harbour and sunset rather than onto another building. Every suite has a proper kitchen, and the range runs from generous doubles to family layouts with a living room; honeymoon and family categories add a private pool or outdoor jacuzzi. A shared seasonal pool gives everyone somewhere to cool off, à-la-carte breakfast removes the need to cook in the morning, and complimentary port transfers make arrival unusually painless. Restaurants, shops and Martinakia Beach are all reachable on foot, while free parking helps with the rest of the island.
The elevated site is the source of the panorama and the catch. The walk back from Merichas is uphill, there is no lift, and guests with mobility concerns should ask where their suite sits before booking. Private water is not standard: some rooms share the main pool, some have a plunge pool and only the named honeymoon category has a jacuzzi. The communal pool operates only from early June to late September and closes in the evening, while reception does not accommodate after-hours arrivals. Rates are firmly in Kythnos’s luxury bracket. Expedia gives EmGard a perfect 10.0 from 15 reviews, the island’s strongest score with a credible sample in the port-area suite category. It is ideal for space, views and easy ferry logistics rather than direct beach access.
