Kythnos is a low-key western Cycladic island known for Loutra's hot springs, traditional Chora and the double-sided beach at Kolona.
Kythnos lies close to Attica but keeps a rural character of terraces, stone walls and small inland villages. Chora and Dryopida offer contrasting lanes and churches, while Loutra's thermal water flows near the shore beside a modest marina.
Kolona's narrow sandbar is the best-known beach, though the island has many quieter bays reached by rough roads or boat. Walking routes and unpretentious tavernas make Kythnos particularly appealing outside the August peak.
Practical information
Ferries run from Lavrio and Piraeus. A car with good clearance helps on unsurfaced beach roads; confirm spring flow and avoid relying on limited island taxis.
