Grace Hotel, Auberge Collection

A sharply designed five-star retreat with Imerovigli’s largest infinity pool, ambitious seafood dining and private terraces cut into the caldera cliff.

Our take

Imerovigli’s design splurge, built around the sunset

Grace Hotel treats the caldera as architecture rather than decoration. White terraces descend below Imerovigli, drawing the eye towards Skaros Rock and the sunset, while the village’s largest infinity pool gives the hotel a shared space generous enough to justify leaving a private terrace. Breakfast is a leisurely affair rather than a rushed buffet, and Varoulko Santorini brings chef Lefteris Lazarou’s seafood-led cooking to the property for dinner. A spa, fitness room, yoga and carefully organised private experiences complete the resort-level offer without turning the hotel into a sprawling compound. This is the high-design choice for travellers prepared to spend substantially on service, food and a view that shapes the entire day.

The cliff is part of the experience and the limitation. There are many steps between road level, rooms, pool and restaurant, so Grace is a poor choice for significant mobility restrictions. Entry rooms can feel compact for the price, and terrace privacy varies according to room position and the nearby footpath; travellers buying seclusion should select a plunge-pool suite carefully rather than assume it. Imerovigli is calmer than Fira, but its restaurant choice is correspondingly smaller. Expedia rates Grace Hotel 9.6 from 148 reviews. It is not the village’s highest numerical score, yet it leads the design-and-dining category through the scale of its pool, the strength of its restaurant and a coherent sense of place.
