Hotel Anixis

An honest family hotel with leafy gardens, balconies and a remarkably convenient position for the thermal springs, best suited to travellers who value warmth over facilities.

Our take

Simple, genuine hospitality beside the Loutra Ypatis springs

Hotel Anixis has been welcoming travellers to Loutra Ypatis since 1975, and its appeal is refreshingly straightforward. The family-run hotel sits about 200 metres from the village’s thermal-spring complex, with a quiet garden, shaded terrace and mountain air that make it easy to settle after a drive. Rooms are simple but include useful balconies and refrigerators, and the hosts earn unusually consistent praise for personal attention, local knowledge and a generous breakfast. Free parking and a relaxed attitude to pets are practical advantages. It is a particularly good-value base for older travellers visiting the baths, walkers heading towards Mount Oiti, or anyone breaking the Athens–Meteora journey without wanting a characterless motorway hotel.

This is not a conventional spa hotel: the therapeutic water and organised bathing facilities are nearby, not a large wellness centre within Anixis itself. Interiors are traditional and functional rather than polished, reception is not staffed around the clock, and there is no lift, pool, gym or dinner restaurant. Travellers arriving late should make arrangements in advance, and those with limited mobility should discuss room position before booking. Central Lamia is around 17 kilometres away, so a car remains useful and the village can feel very quiet in the evening or outside the main thermal season. Expedia rates Hotel Anixis 9.2 from 23 reviews. The sample is modest, but it leads the area’s budget guesthouse category for hospitality, garden calm and proximity to the springs.
