The seamless handover between airport and island ferry
Hotel Avra is built around one very useful promise: it links Athens airport and Rafina port without turning the transfer into a project. Its complimentary airport shuttle runs hourly around the clock, with advance booking required for the return journey and for some late winter arrivals. From the hotel, ferries are about three minutes away on foot and Rafina’s town beach is closer still. The 96 rooms include triples, quadruples and connecting options as well as sea-view doubles. La Marinera serves Greek and Mediterranean food from breakfast through dinner, and free parking, a 24-hour desk and an elevator help with late arrivals, children and luggage.
Avra is best understood as a very good gateway hotel, not a beach resort. There is no swimming pool or spa, the public waterfront and port activity sit directly outside, and rooms facing inland lose the Aegean outlook. The airport shuttle journey is normally straightforward but traffic can stretch it, so it should never replace a sensible flight buffer. Some Expedia reviews also find the beds or simpler room categories less impressive than the renovated common spaces. Even so, a 9.0 score from 1,826 reviews is persuasive at this volume. Avra is Rafina’s best logistics choice by a wide margin, especially for a late flight followed by a morning ferry or the reverse.
