PHEIA, Vriniotis Resorts

A warmly run beachfront hotel outside Katakolo, combining an infinity pool, memorable Greek breakfast and sunset-facing restaurant with easy access to Olympia.

Our take

A small Ionian retreat with a pool above Agios Andreas

PHEIA occupies a secluded fold of Agios Andreas Bay, a few kilometres from Katakolo’s port. Rooms and dining terraces face west over the Ionian Sea, and the compact infinity pool sits almost level with the horizon. The family’s cooking is central to the stay: breakfast brings local pies, yoghurt, honey and cheeses, while the restaurant treats dinner as more than a convenience for an isolated hotel. Staff are notably generous with practical help, and free parking makes this a restful base before or after Ancient Olympia.

The shoreline directly below mixes rock and sand rather than offering a broad, soft beach, though the water is clear and loungers are provided. Katakolo is about six minutes away by car and Olympia roughly 40 minutes, so a vehicle is effectively essential. Seasonal opening affects the pool and some food service, and sea-view categories are worth confirming rather than assuming. PHEIA is Katakolo’s best small resort for travellers seeking personal service, a good meal and quiet coastal time, distinct from both the area’s large family complexes and high-design Dexamenes.
