Phoenix Hotel

A long-established central hotel directly on Solomos Square, offering breakfast, family rooms and immediate access to the waterfront, museums and town life.

Our take

The simplest reliable base on Solomos Square

Phoenix earns its place through location and consistency rather than resort theatrics. The front door opens onto Solomos Square, putting the Byzantine Museum, waterfront and café-lined centre within a minute or two on foot. Rooms range from compact doubles to two-bedroom family layouts, and many of the sea-facing categories add balconies over the square and harbour. A buffet breakfast is included, Cafe Central serves light meals and drinks, and the 24-hour reception is useful for late flights or early ferry connections. For travellers spending a night in town before moving around the island, there is very little logistical friction.

The square is lively, so a harbour-facing balcony is not the same thing as a silent room; light sleepers should request a higher floor or quieter position. There is no pool, spa, gym or private parking, and standard rooms are functional rather than indulgent. The ferry terminal is around a mile away, close enough for a brief taxi ride but awkward on foot with luggage, and sea-view categories are worth choosing deliberately rather than expecting every room to face the water. Expedia rates Phoenix 8.8 from 413 reviews. That is not the town's highest small-sample score, but it is the most convincing mature record for a central, full-service value hotel.
