Zakynthos Town is the island's civic and ferry centre, with the Church of Saint Dionysios, Solomos Square, museums and views from Bochali.
The 1953 earthquake and fire destroyed most of the old Venetian city. Rebuilding retained elements such as arcades and broad squares, while the Church of Saint Dionysios and Byzantine Museum preserve art and memory rescued from across the island.
The waterfront is active with ferries, fishing boats and evening promenades. Above town, Bochali castle and cafés provide wide views, and local music traditions remain visible in choirs and summer performances.
Practical information
Ferries arrive at the southern waterfront and airport buses are limited. Walk the centre, use a taxi for Bochali and avoid tight ferry-to-flight connections.
