Archaeological Museum of Thasos

A state museum beside the ancient agora in Limenas, tracing Thasos from prehistory through the early Christian period.

Our take

The clearest introduction to the island’s ancient cities and quarries

The Archaeological Museum of Thasos gives structure to an island where ruins are spread across towns, hills and quarry sites. Its collections cover prehistory, the ancient city, sculpture, trade, religion and the early Christian period. Visit before the agora and theatre so inscriptions, architecture and marble production carry more meaning outside.

The museum provides step-free services, a lift, accessible toilets and tactile material according to its official listing. Hours change by season, and Tuesday closure applies for much of the year. Check the current Ministry of Culture notice before crossing the island, then allow time for the adjacent agora.
