Kleftiko waits behind the church lane
Malamatenia fills a narrow back lane near its namesake church with teal shutters, old photographs and small pavement tables. Pilgrims, residents and families order kleftiko in parchment, grilled calamari, caper salad, lamb chops and baked aubergine at prices below Chora's newer dining rooms.
Walk-ins may wait after 20:00, especially when wind drives every diner indoors. Go before the dinner rush, check the bill for duplicate bread charges and choose the interior on gusty nights; cooked lamb dishes hold up better than ordering the entire fish-and-meat range at once.
What visitors say
Malamatenia rates 4.4 from more than 630 Tripadvisor reviews; July 2026 repeat diners praise value and Greek staples, while queues, slower service and occasional bread billing errors recur.
