Agios Georgios Cave Tour

Agios Georgios Cave extends beneath Kilkis's hill in a multi-level network known for speleothems and fossil finds, with visits dependent on guided access.

Our take

Go beneath the city hill on a guided route where narrow passages, formations and fossils demand practical preparation

The cave turns the familiar city hill into a layered geological site. Passages and chambers contain stalactites, stalagmites and other mineral formations, while fossil discoveries link the underground system with the palaeontological display above. A managed tour is the appropriate way to enter: lighting, surfaces and the chosen route determine what can be seen, and the guide can distinguish geological evidence from the therapeutic claims often repeated about the cave's air.

Confirm the day's tour times before climbing the hill. Underground surfaces can be wet, ceilings low and temperature much cooler than the street, so wear closed shoes and carry a light layer even in summer. Stay with the group, use handrails and never touch formations. Ask about steps and the shortest accessible experience before booking. Claustrophobia, respiratory conditions and limited balance warrant a direct conversation with staff; a tourism listing is not medical clearance.
