Walk carefully through Paiko woodland to a chain of falls and a blue-green pool whose small scale needs restraint in busy weather
Skra's appeal lies in the transition from dry road to dense stream valley. A short woodland path reaches small cascades and the blue-green pool fed by the Kotza-Dere, with larger falls continuing through the trees. Water colour and volume depend on season, recent rain and light, so arrive for the habitat rather than a guaranteed social-media shade. Nearby memorials recall the First World War Battle of Skra and should be visited separately from a swim or picnic.
The drive from Kilkis is long enough to make this a dedicated day. Wear shoes with grip: roots, mud, wet rock and improvised approaches around the pool cause falls. Do not jump from rocks, use soap or leave food waste, and avoid blocking the narrow path for photographs. After storms or snowmelt, ask locally whether access is safe. Summer weekends become crowded; an early weekday visit reduces pressure. There may be no dependable lifeguard, changing room or mobile signal.
