Study the three-day battle on the ground where it happened and leave room for loss on every side of a contested border
The museum stands southwest of Kilkis on the terrain of the battle fought from 19 to 21 June 1913 during the Second Balkan War. Its compact rooms hold uniforms, weapons, regimental colours, photographs, documents and personal material. Maps help explain movements that are difficult to infer from today's quiet landscape. The battle was decisive for Greek control of Kilkis and extraordinarily costly; responsible interpretation recognises Bulgarian as well as Greek dead rather than turning the visit into triumphal spectacle.
The site is operated with military involvement and opening can require advance contact. Call the published number before driving out, carry identification and follow every instruction on photography or restricted ground. Allow an hour inside and time at the memorial landscape. Access is at ground level according to the municipal description, but confirm parking and toilet arrangements. Do not wander beyond public areas looking for trenches or collect any object from the battlefield.
