Fokospilia

Fokospilia is a coastal cave with a tiny pebble beach and cold water inside, normally approached from the sea rather than independently.

Our take

Enter Thymaina's sea cave only with a local skipper who treats swell, cold water and wildlife as limits

The cave shelters a pebble strip only about fifteen metres long, and a small church of Agios Dimitrios stands nearby. Reflected light and markedly colder water create the experience, but the confined entrance becomes unsafe with swell and must never be treated as an all-weather swim.

Use a licensed local skipper, wear the supplied flotation equipment and accept cancellation without argument. Do not enter if wildlife is present or the skipper advises against it. There are no facilities, and confident open-water ability does not remove risks from rock, surge and cold shock.
