Shallow sand within Zakynthos's turtle-nesting bay
Kalamaki forms the eastern part of Laganas Bay within the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. Fine sand and shallow water suit families, but the beach's primary significance is as loggerhead turtle nesting habitat.
Obey seasonal opening hours, fenced nest areas and restrictions on equipment and water activity. Remove belongings before evening and never approach turtles. Aircraft pass low toward the nearby runway; they are part of the setting, not a reason to enter protected dune areas for photographs.
