Agios Ioannis Beach

Agios Ioannis offers a quieter west-facing beach near its historic church, with clear water and limited provision rather than a managed resort setup.

Our take

A long west-coast pebble shore for sunset and a self-directed swim

Agios Ioannis stretches along Meganisi's western side below Spartochori, with the small church giving the shore both a landmark and a sense of continuity. The municipal guide describes the beach as unorganised and pebbled, with a café-restaurant in the broader area rather than directly supporting every section. Pick a spot only after checking the day's afternoon breeze and the depth at entry.

Road access and free parking make the beach possible without a boat, but shade, toilets, fresh water and lifeguard cover should not be assumed. Bring water shoes, drinking water and independent shade, then remove everything at departure. The signed walk from Spartochori is about 3.1 kilometres and partially lit; the uphill return in heat is the harder half. Treat the church respectfully, dress before entering and keep its approach clear.
