Kolokytha Beach

Kolokytha has clear, sheltered water and a pretty pocket of sand, reached by a rough track and walk or busy excursion boats.

Our take

A small sandy cove across the Elounda salt pans

Kolokytha lies beyond the causeway and old salt pans of Elounda, on the seaward side of the Spinalonga peninsula. The cove is small, sandy and visually gentle, but excursion boats and road visitors can overwhelm its limited space around midday.

The final track is rough and parking should never block turning points or vegetation. Walk the last section in proper shoes, carry water and shade, and come early or late enough to miss boat groups. There is no reliable public toilet or lifeguard, and smooth rock at the edges becomes slippery.

Good to know
