A long arc of sand, shallow clear water and pine forest combines with frequent buses and extensive summer facilities at Skiathos’s best-known beach.
Our take
Skiathos’s easiest full-service beach day
Koukounaries curves around a broad, sheltered bay at the western end of Skiathos’s bus route. Fine sand and a gradual entry make swimming straightforward in normal conditions, while the pine-backed wetland separates the shore from the road and adds a cooler, greener edge.
Convenience brings crowds. The central sections fill early and carry the most water-sports activity, so swimmers seeking quiet should walk toward an end of the bay and stay outside launch lanes. Use the boardwalks rather than cutting through the protected vegetation, and take the bus if you would rather not compete for summer parking.
