Pontamos is the straightforward beach day on Chalki: a pale arc in a protected bay rather than a rocky swimming platform. The gradual entry is useful for children and less confident swimmers, although wind can still change conditions. In high summer the limited shade and front rows fill quickly, so walk over in the morning rather than expecting solitude at lunchtime.
The route from Emborio is short but exposed, and a seasonal minibus may operate. Bring water even when the taverna is open, because island businesses can close around weather or shoulder-season demand. Keep clear of the small wetland behind the beach and take every item away if you use an unserviced section.
