Agios Achilleios is a tiny inhabited Prespa island, known for a ruined basilica, bird-rich lake views and a floating pedestrian bridge.
A long footbridge crosses the reed beds of Small Prespa to Agios Achilleios. The ruins of a tenth-century basilica recall the period when Tsar Samuel made the area an important medieval centre.
The island supports a very small community amid wetlands used by pelicans and other waterbirds. Its paths, grazing land and archaeological remains require a quiet, low-impact visit.
Practical information
Reach the bridge by car from Prespa villages, then continue only on foot. Keep dogs controlled, avoid nesting areas and bring supplies outside summer.
